THE SUN, 8′20″ AGO
Sunlight takes approximately eight minutes and twenty seconds to reach Earth. The Sun we perceive now is always an image of its past. This work turns solar activity into a changing field of light and sound, allowing us to watch and listen to a distant star that has already changed by the time its light arrives.

Observation and generation
The observation view brings solar imagery, active regions, magnetic information and space-weather measurements together. A separate generative view sustains an uninterrupted light field. Sound is synthesized in the browser, with solar data continuously shaping the auditory space.


Measurements arriving here
NASA SDO imagery and NOAA SWPC measurements provide the work’s observational material. Sunspot positions, magnetic classifications, X-ray flux and solar-wind measurements become parameters of the audiovisual system. Their observation times remain part of the work, connecting the light-travel delay with the different rhythms at which data reach us.
