Soil, Breathing
Soil, Breathing explores the visualisation of smell across soil layers. Working with a team at the Glasgow School of Art’s School of Innovation & Technology, I investigated how an electronic nose and data on pH, moisture and light could make microbial activity in soil perceptible.

Sensing beneath the surface
The exploration uses an electronic nose to obtain geosmin feedback from different soil layers and considers how these responses can map microbial activity. Alongside this, pH, moisture and light data are translated into visual and sensory experiences. Together, these approaches seek to reveal the otherwise invisible networks of respiration beneath the soil and the natural strategies that emerge within them.

Collaboration
I contributed as a core team member to this 2023 collaboration with the Glasgow School of Art’s School of Innovation & Technology. The project connects ecological data with environmental perception through an exploratory approach to sensing and representation.
