Forest of Birds

Forest of Birds is a public interactive installation driven by migration data for nearly 200 species of migratory birds. Developed with the Human–Field Interaction research team, it combines open data, hardware and software development, and sampled sound to create an ecological interaction experience.

Migration as a driver of interaction

The installation uses open migration data from eBird and Movebank, drawing on the movements of nearly 200 migratory bird species. Hardware and software development give the installation the form of a weather vane, while sound sampled from open data platforms adds an acoustic dimension. Bird migration becomes the data source for a public encounter with ecological processes.

Research collaboration

In 2023, I participated in the design through the Human–Field Interaction research team at Tsinghua University’s Future Laboratory and the Tsinghua–Alibaba Joint Laboratory for Natural Interaction Experience. The work brings ecological data into environmental perception through a shared public installation.
